Hampden County resident Dominic Grassetti, age 25, of Southwick, turned himself in to police on Monday, Oct. 3, Connecticut State Police reported.

He was charged with second-degree manslaughter in the two-vehicle crash that killed Fernando Lebron, of Chicopee, Massachusetts, on I-91 in Enfield on Nov. 12, 2021, police said.

Police said the crash happened at about 12:40 a.m. near the Exit 48 off-ramp.

A Scion xA, driven by Lebron, was northbound on the highway when a northbound Hyundai Sonata, driven by Grassetti, struck the back of the Scion, authorities said.

Investigators determined that Grassetti was driving at about 109 mph at the time of the crash in an area where the speed limit was 65 mph, according to the arrest warrant.

In the arrest warrant, police said Grassetti told a trooper at the scene that he drank an alcoholic beverage before driving, and authorities detected signs of impairment.

He was given standardized field sobriety tests, which he did not perform to standard, and was arrested at the scene on a charge of operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, police said.

Police said in the update that Grassetti was held on $150,000 bond after his second-degree manslaughter charge.
